This one day course
is designed for large and small breeders to give them a
background and understanding of foaling the mare
2008 Course dates:
9th March and 29th March 2008
The course covers the following
areas:
Preparation for a safe foaling
Complications of late pregnancy
Signs of foaling including use of Foaling Alarms
Inducing the mare
Normal foaling in the mare
How to recognise when something is going wrong & what to
do
Examination of the placenta
Newborn foal examination
The orphan foal and adoption
The course is
delivered by very experienced veterinary surgeons in
Foaling and Equine Reproduction. The lectures will be
conducted by: Dr Jonathan Pycock MRCVS of Equine
Reproductive Services and Dick Quan-Taylor MRCVS of
Fyrnwy Equine Clinics. Miss Johanna Vardon MBE of The
National Foaling Bank will give a talk on orphaned foals
and the work of the National Foaling Bank.
