Range - if a
transmitter (the part that goes on the mare) and the receiver were
taken into an open flat field the signal from the transmitter would
reach the receiver up to 700 metres away.
However, as we fully expect you to strap the
transmitter onto your mare and keep her in a stable, then place the
receiver in a house behind brick walls it is not realistic to claim
ranges of 500 metres or more. Every additional obstruction
(metal being the worst) will absorb some of the signal.
Therefore, every case is different.
We would tentatively say
that in the average set up 250 metres is as much as you should expect
without the use of external aerials, which we can supply.
The longest range system we currently have in use is at a large stud
where a 6 transmitter system operates with a long range aerial at 600
metres.
Conversely, we have recently supplied another large stud
with an eight transmitter system where the foaling barn is made of
corrugated metal and, without the use of an external aerial, the
operating distance was less than 75metres. The external aerial
has solved the problem.
